Philipsburg Manor – Preserving History, Cultivating Natural Beauty

Welcome to our Philipsburg Manor project, a historic site dating back to 1750 and now under the care of Historic Hudson Valley. For several years, Dillon & Semenovich Inc. has been deeply involved in multiple landscape projects, dedicated to preserving the site’s historical significance and enhancing its natural beauty.

Project Overview: Our partnership with Historic Hudson Valley began in 2019, and since then, our mission has been twofold: to eradicate invasive species and establish native plants, and to restore native plantings in floodplain and storm-damaged areas.

Creating Accessible Outdoor Spaces: In 2022, we completed a noteworthy project at Philipsburg Manor – an ADA accessible Picnic Area. Utilizing an eco-friendly paving product called Organic-Lock, we crafted a durable and environmentally conscious surface that allows visitors of all abilities to enjoy the beauty of the site, while preserving the historic setting aesthetically. Alongside this, we designed and installed native landscape areas, elevating the natural ambiance of the historic grounds.

Restoring Period Charm: Our dedication to historical accuracy led us to install period-correct fencing and garden beds at Philipsburg Manor. These thoughtful touches pay homage to the site’s rich past, ensuring a seamless blend of the present and the past.  Visitors are now able to experience different areas of this historic property, which included orchards, vegetable gardens, and pastures for livestock.  Each of these areas had specific styles of fencing.  Historic Hudson Valley offers visitors and students educational tours of the site and the lives of the original inhabitants.
